The Fecal Occult Blood (FOB) Rapid Test entails lateral flow immunoassay technology for the qualitative detection of human hemoglobin in human stool samples. It is a useful aid to detect bleeding caused by a number of gastrointestinal disorders, e.g., diverticulitis, colitis, polyps, and colorectal cancer. Fecal occult blood tests are recommended for use for individuals exhibiting signs and symptoms of having gastrointestinal disorders or asymptomatic individuals at elevated risk of gastrointestinal disorders, such as adults ≥50 years for routine colorectal cancer screening, individuals with family history of colorectal cancer, and patients with prior gastrointestinal polyps.
The test is a non‑automated device intended for professional laboratory use and self‑testing.
